Measuring more than
one product through a single laser gauge...
....is common for wire drawing operations.
The technique is also being used by extruders for improved line
utilization and special product manufacturing.
Customer Requirements
Customer was extruding a multi-strand
rubber tube. Each individual tube had to be treated as an individual
extrusion - with it's own SPC, alarm and trend charts.

Solution
A version of MetriLink was created to suite
this type of measurement exactly.
The Multi Strand system uses a standard
optical gauge, that has the ability to measure more than one strand
in combination with a standard industrial PC.
The software includes:
• Measurement display of all strands concurrently
• Alarm output for tolerance deviation and loss of strand
• Trend charts for each strand to display variation over time
• SPC charting on each strand , Closed loop control.
• Touch screen ready for rugged shop floor use.
A self contained single axis gauge is ideal for this application.
The interface is a simple serial interface and the gauge can be
located well away form the display if required.
Main Display
The main display screen showing eight strands
if data. Each strand has it's own status message display and the
size value changes colors for easy operator identification.
Alarm status is displayed
in the lower left corner and outputs are provided for a light stack
or other indication.
The lower right is the message display that lists the error conditions
that have recently occurred so that all errors are review able.
